How to switch gas supplier
If, after assessing your energy needs, consumption habits and current gas tariff, you realise that your current plan no longer suits you, it may be time to look for a new gas supplier that offers better services at a better price.
If you are also considering switching electricity supplier, you can find useful information about that process too.
You can change gas supplier as many times as you consider necessary, provided that you are the contract holder. You only need to follow a few simple steps and gather the necessary documentation to ensure the process runs smoothly.
Below, we explain each step.
Evaluate your current contract
Review the conditions you currently have and calculate your current bill to check whether you can improve it by switching supplier.
Pay close attention to whether your contract has a minimum term or lock-in period and, if so, what penalty would apply if you switch before it ends.
Choose your new gas supplier
The first thing you need to do is decide which new supplier you want to contract and review the conditions and services they offer.
Look for personalised energy tariffs and companies that provide good assistance services.
Contact the new supplier
Once you have chosen your new company, contact them to start the switching process.
Most gas suppliers offer online services or telephone support to make this procedure easier. The new supplier will be responsible for carrying out the switch to the tariff you have chosen.
With Repsol, you can find the best solution for you and switch by calling 900 118 866 or completing the process 100% online.
Gather the necessary documentation
Your new supplier will ask you for a series of details and documents in order to process the switch.
Make sure you have a gas bill to hand, as it contains most of the information needed:
- Full name of the contract holder.
- Contract holder’s DNI.
- CUPS code, or Universal Supply Point Code.
- Address of the property where the gas supply is located.
- Current gas tariff.
- Bank details for direct debit payments.
- In some cases, the Gas Installation Certificate or gas bulletin may also be requested.
Formalise the contract
The new company will prepare the contract so that you can activate the gas supply with them.
Review the terms and conditions carefully, including any minimum contract period. Once you are satisfied, sign the contract to formalise the switch.
The new supplier will be responsible for managing the cancellation process with your previous supplier.
